The insurance brickwork we repair

Insurance brick repairs cover damage that is sudden and accidental, not the gradual wear a wall picks up over decades. The three we see most often across Adelaide are storm and hail damage, vehicle impact, and structural cracking after a defined event. Storm damage usually shows up as dislodged capping, cracked or blown-out sections of a fence or wall, and water driving in behind render after high winds. Hail can pit and spall soft face brick, especially on older homes where the surface has already weathered.

Vehicle impact is one of the most common claims we quote. A car reversing into a brick front fence, clipping a pier, or going through a boundary wall leaves a section that is structurally unsafe and needs to be made safe, rebuilt, and matched back into the surrounding brickwork. Structural cracking, whether that is stepped cracks tracking through the mortar joints, separation at a corner, or a failed lintel above a window or door, can be claimable when it follows a specific event such as an impact or a burst pipe. We assess what actually caused it and document that clearly, because the cause is what decides the claim.

How a brick insurance claim works

If the damage has left the wall unsafe, the first job is a make-safe: fencing off the area, propping, or carefully removing loose brickwork so nobody gets hurt. After that, the smoothest order is usually to lodge the claim with your insurer and get us in to inspect. You do not have to choose between calling your insurer and calling a bricklayer. Most claims run best when both happen early and we take it from there directly with the insurer or their assessor.

We document the damage with photos, measure and scope the repair, and provide an itemised quote written for the claim. If an assessor is appointed, we give them what they need to approve the work without back-and-forth delays. Because we work directly with insurance companies, you are not stuck relaying messages between your insurer and your tradesperson, and the repair keeps moving.

Restored to pre-loss condition

On an insurance repair the goal is to restore the wall to its pre-loss condition, which is exactly what your policy is there to deliver. A rebuilt fence pier or a patched section has to read as part of the original wall, not as an obvious repair, or the job is not really finished. We rebuild to that standard using brick that suits the age and style of the existing work, and we document the finished result so the insurer or assessor can see the property has been properly restored.

If your claim is urgent, say so when you call. We can prioritise a make-safe so the property is secure straight away, and because the insurer works from the photos and measurements taken at that first visit, getting them right up front keeps the approved scope matched to the real damage. That is what stops a repair being held up, or having to be partly redone, once the claim is settled.

FAQ

Insurance brick repair questions

Does home insurance cover a damaged brick wall?

In most cases, yes, if the damage was sudden and accidental. Storm damage, vehicle impact, impact from a fallen tree, and some structural damage following a defined event are commonly covered under home or building insurance. General wear, slow cracking, and lack of maintenance usually are not. Your policy wording is what decides it, so it is worth checking your PDS or asking your insurer. We can inspect the damage and tell you honestly whether it looks like a claimable event before you lodge.

Who do I call if my brick fence got hit by a car?

If the wall is unsafe, make the area safe first, then lodge a claim with your insurer. After that, call us on 0467 837 928 for an inspection. If another driver is at fault and identified, the claim may go through their insurer instead. Either way we document the damage, quote the rebuild, and deal directly with whichever insurer is handling it, so you are not caught in the middle.

How long does an insurance brick repair take?

A make-safe can usually be done within a day or two of inspection. The full repair depends on the size of the damage, whether bricks need to be sourced and matched, and how quickly the claim is approved. A single damaged fence section is often a one to two day job once it is signed off, while larger structural repairs take longer. We give you a realistic timeframe with the quote and keep you updated as the claim progresses.
